Tendulkar to become IAF offiicer

New Delhi: Sachin Tendulkar is soon to become an officer of the Indian Air Force(IAF) with the Air Headquarters having finalized plans to make him an Honorary Group Captain.

It's the first time a cricketer will get this honor. There were considerable debate as to what position the cricketer should be given. There were initial reports that the batsmen will be handed with Wing Commander or Squadron Leader. But they were deemed too junior for the national icon, who has 20 years of top class cricket under his belt.

As per the rules, honorary rank in the Indian armed forces can be granted to both “Indian or non-Indian nationals who have rendered service of a high order to the Indian Union and who have rendered signal service to any of the armed forces, or who have taken a special interest in fostering the development of any of the armed forces"

The Air Force has forwarded necessary documents to the Defense Ministry. The Prime Minister's office and the President will have to give their final consent before the formal announcement is made.
