India repeat history clinching Asia Cup

Dambulla: India repeat the history after clinching Asia Cup since 15 years against Sri Lanka by 81 runs in the final match here on Thursday in Dambulla

India captured the Asia Cup for the first time since 1995 with an emphatic run victory over defending champions Sri Lanka with 5.2 Overs to spare.

Earlier, After electing to bat India set a modest target of 269 for Sri Lanka as the Lankan bowlers restricted them by taking wickets at regular intervals.

India were given a fine start by Dinesh Karthik, who struck nine fours in his 66. Dhoni hit two fours and a six in 38 and Rohit Sharma made 41 as they reached 268-6.

In-reply Sri Lankan off to a shaky start as Tillakaratne Dilshan departs for a duck for the very second ball from Ashish Nehra.

Sri Lankans were bowled out for just 187 on the board. Kandamby (31 from 45 balls) and Kapugedera (55 from 88) were the only contributors.

Ashish Nehra grabbed three quick wickets, those of Mahela Jayawardene (11), Angelo Mathews (0) and Kumar Sangakkara (17).

Dinesh Karthik was adjudged as Man of the Match.

Shahid Afridi was adjudged as Man of the Series.
