Chennai: Yuvraj Singh who was dropped for the Asia Cup by the selectors for his ordinary form has been recalled in the 16-member test squad along with Rahul Dravid, for the three-match Test series in Sri Lanka.
Both Yuvraj and Dravid had missed the last test series against South Africa at home due to injuries sustained in the earlier series against Bangladesh early in the year.
Dravid, who was hit by a rising Shahdat Hossain ball in the Mirpur Test and was advised three weeks' rest, returned to the side at the expense of S Badrinath.
Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha was preferred over Dinesh Karthik, despite Karthik's recent man of the match performance in the Asia Cup finals, which helped India win the Asia Cup after 15 years.
Saha had made his debut in Nagpur against South Africa but was left out for the Kolkata match.
Since Virender Sehwag is nursing a hamstring injury, the selectors have decided to keep Murali Vijay as a back-up opener. In the pace department, Ishant Sharma has been named in the squad along with Zaheer Khan, S Sreesanth.
The three-Test series is scheduled to be played in Galle and Colombo. The first Test is scheduled between July 18 and 22 at Galle.
The second and third are scheduled between July 26 and 30, and August 3 and 7 respectively in Colombo.
