The Australian coach, Tim Nielsen is positive and believes that the upcoming Test fixtures, which includes the Ashes, will be a good opportunity for the Aussies to regain top spot in the ICC Test ratings.
Australia is scheduled to play Pakistan in a two-Test series in England beginning next week, followed by a couple of tests against India in October. After that it will be the turn of the much awaited Ashes in December.
"This gives us a great opportunity and if we are playing well enough in the Ashes, it will give us the opportunity to regain the No.1 position," said Tim.
The Australians are currently placed in the third spot with 119 rating points behind India (124) and South Africa (120).
The Aussie coach also said that the players need to concentrate on the job in hand rather than thinking too much about the future.
"So over the next little while we have to make sure we get all of our squad players right and if we do that, we are a real chance," added Nielsen
Ponting's men lost the Ashes and the tag the top ranking spot to India in last August's loss at The Oval.
Since then Australia have won seven of eight Tests against the West Indies, Pakistan and New Zealand to maintain a spot near the top of the rankings.
India will begin a three-Test series in Sri Lanka this month while South Africa meet Pakistan in a two-Test series in the United Arab Emirates in November before hosting India in three Tests soon afterwards.
