London, July 9: Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has said that that his side will target Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi in the upcoming Lords Test, as he will be making a come back in the Test arena after four years.
“He hasn"t played much Test cricket of late, has he? If you read between the lines he"s almost in there as that leader and captain, not necessarily one of their best Test players. So, we"ll test him out," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Ponting, as saying.
“Even in the one-dayers in Australia last season with our quicks, bowling the way they did to him, I think we can sort him out in Test cricket for sure," he added.
Afridi will also be facing his first test as captaincy in Test arena. The 30-year-old had some concerns over a minor side strain last month before recovering in time to lead Pakistan to a 2-0 whitewash in the T20 series against the Australians.
Afridi has been preparing casually for the series. He decided to sit out of Pakistan"s final two-day tour game against Leicester, a move certainly aimed at keeping all the workload issues at bay.
