Galle: The Second day of the first Test match between Sri Lanka and India has been called off with not even a single ball being bowled after persistent rain continued to pour.
Earlier, play was expected to start after lunch, but the weather had other ideas as rain was continual and the wait was eventually too much as the officials called it for the day.
India vs Sri Lanka, 1st Test - Scorecard
The hosts are in a commanding position and will resume play tomorrow, if the weather settles out. Sri Lanka are well placed at a score of 256 for the loss of two wickets with opener Tharanga Paranavitana batting at 112 not out, along with Mahela Jayawardene who is batting at 8 unbeaten.
For the Indian bowling debutant Abhimanyu Mithun was promising as he picked up the wicket of T. Dilshan, while the rest of the bowling lacked venom and was more-or-less toothless.
Muttaih Muralitharan who is playing his final Test match and who is just 8 wickets short of 800 wickets, stands a thin chance to reach 800 wickets if the conditions continue to remain this way.
