Former Indian ace spinner Erapalli Prasanna feels that Harbhajan is feeling the pressure of responsibility and also faltering with his bowling technique in the on-going Test series against Sri Lanka.
Harbhajan had managed to shut the critics earlier this year, after he dismissed South Africa"s No. 10 batsman to help India square the series and retain the No. 1 Test ranking.
In the current tour of Sri Lanka, however, Harbhajan has been very ordinary and has not been able to trouble the Sri Lankan batting. Expected to spearhead the attack in the series, Harbhajan has conceded 304 runs, picking up just two wickets so far in the two Tests at a shocking average of 152.
In the former great's opinion, Harbhajan has turned into a defensive bowler too concerned with containing the batsmen rather than getting them out.
“Harbhajan has choked under pressure. He was supposed to lead the bowling attack after (Anil) Kumble"s retirement. But so far he has failed. He is bowling the wrong line — too wide outside the off stump. He"s not getting his basics right," Prasanna said according to Indian Express report.
"The BCCI should take the initiative to ensure he doesn"t fade away,"he added.
