Stuart Broad had created early inroads as he dismissed opener Imran Farhat for a duck, then he followed it up with his second wicket of Azhar Ali who was dismissed for a 32-ball duck.
Steve Finn had got the second breakthrough for the hosts, as he dismissed captain Salman Butt who scored 7 runs. Anderson got the wicket of Shoaib Malik as Pakistan lost their top four batsmen.

Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal has been dropped for the second Test against England at Edgbaston after a poor show behind the stumps.
Mohammad Yousuf, the Pakistan middle order who arrived in England on Thrusday will also not feature in the Test match.
24-year-old wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider is all set to make his Test debut.
Pakistan are trailing the four match series by 0-1.
