Karachi: Pakistan chief selector Mohsin Khan has defended the Cricket Board's (PCB) decision to recall former captain Mohammad Yousuf in the national team for the ongoing Test series against England even as many former players have criticized the call.
"He is a seasoned player and his inclusion will be a boost for the team in the remaining Tests against England," Mohsin said on Thursday.
But though he was included in the touring squad, Yousuf was dropped from the playing eleven for the second Test against England at Edgbaston.
Mohsin, a former Test cricketer, was of the opinion that Yousuf's experience will be a boost for the inexperienced Pakistan batting line-up. He was hopeful that Yousuf would not show signs of rustiness when he makes his international comeback after almost seven months.
"Yousuf is one of the best batsmen in the world. The presence of such a player will definitely give a huge boost to the team," he stated.
"The biggest thing is his presence will also be a good thing for the youngsters in the side who can learn a lot from him and he can also guide them through the tough tour," he said.
"He has played a lot in English conditions. I hope he will overcome the lack of practice soon and will use all his experience to score runs for the team," said Mohsin.
