Edgbaston: Andrew Strauss and Jonathan Trott guided England to a nine-wicket win against Pakistan on the fourth day of the second Test match at Edgbaston to lead the four match Test series by 2-0.
Chasing 118 runs to win, both Strauss and Trott finished with unbeaten 53 after the early dismissal of opener Alastair Cook. England did the hard work before lunch and when they resumed 47 were needed with the bite gone from Pakistan's attack.
The duo hit a partnership of 111* for the second wicket as Pakistan team went wicketless after early scalp of Trott.
Trott was solid and he grew with confidence as the innings progressed. Meanwhile, Pakistan's poor show in the field continued as Struass was dropped thrice, dropped twice by debutant wicket keeper Zulqarnain Haider off the bowling of Ajmal while he was batting of 10 and 38 and later dropped for the third time by Mohammad Asif off Shoaib Malik while he was batting on 43.
Resuming the day's play at 291-9, Pakistan added just five runs to their total. Mohammad Asif was the last man to be dismissed off the bowling of Stuart Broad caught by Kevin Pietersen at gully.
