India win by 105 runs

Dambulla: New Zealand bowlers managed to restrict the Indian batting to a total of 223 allout after M.S Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first in the sixth match of the Micromax Tri-series in Dambulla.

Virender Sehwag hit a delightful century for the the Indians after a dreadful start.

Kyle Mills had struck an early blow for the Kiwis to put the Indians in the backfoot as he had dismissed opener Dinesh Karthik in the third ball of the Indian innings.

Karthik was rather sloppy with no foot movement as he fished a ball wide delivery just to edge it the wicketkeeper Hopkins behind the wicket.

Tim Southee replacing injured Jacob Orab and Daryl Tuffey got the second breakthrough as he dismissed Virat Kholi(8).

Sehwag was however continuing on with his good stroke-play and continuing to find the boundaries with ease.

Andy Mckay then got the dangerous Yuvraj who was trying to play an ambitious pull shot out of nowhere just to balloon it high behind the wicket for Hopkins who ran backwards to take a good catch.

Suresh Raina replacing Yuvraj didn't last long as he held out to Southee while trying to force one on the leg side but just managed to find the fielder at mid-on.

Sehwag however, scored a blistering 110 off just 93 balls and put on a superb stand of 107 runs for the 5th wicket along with Dhoni before being dismissed off the bowling of Nathan Mccullum while trying to dispatch the spinner out of the park but just managing to find a fielder near the boundary line.

Then skipper Dhoni was the next man to be dismissed off the bowling of Hopkins just as India were about to reach the 200-run mark.

Ravindra Jadeja then followed soon off the bowling of Southee. A well directed short ball for the No 7 batsman as he was caught by Taylor at first slip.

Ashish Nehra didn't long either as he chipped a easy catch back to spinner Nathan Mccullum.

Praveen Kumar then was the next man to dismissed as the Indian tail were collapsing like a house of cards. Kumar forced a rather rash shot off the bowling of Southee who picked up his fourth scalp of the innings. India at that session of play were really struggling as they had lost four wickets in the space of 5 overs.

Praveen Kumar was the final man to be dismissed after some resistance along with Ishant Sharma for the last wicket. He was dismissed off the bowling of Kyle Mills.

India vs New Zealand, Tri-series-Dambulla - Scorecard

The team who wins the match will qualify for the finals and meet the home team Sri Lanka for the Micromax Cup.

India after a humiliating loss against the Sri Lankans in the fifth game, India will have to come up with a good show if they are to make it to the finals. Virat Kholi is in the playing XI instead of out of form Rohit Sharma.

New Zealand have a similar criteria, they have to knock the Indians out in order to qualify for the finals. Though the Black Caps have not had enough match practice coming into the match, they will surely be wanting to deliver a sttong show and make it to the finals.
