India beat NZ to reach finals

Dambulla: A delightful ton by Sehwag and later a disciplined bowling by the Indian pacers helped India oust New Zealand and qualify for the Micromax finals where they will face Sri Lanka in Dambulla.

Choosing to bat first, India had a managed to knotch a score of 223 allout with Sehwag scoring his 13th ODI ton, his sixth against the Kiwis while the rest of the batting line up failed to cope with the Kiwi attack. Sehwag was phenomenal and was playing his strokes at ease throughout the innings.

Dhoni chipped in with 38 runs and put up a crucial 107 runs fifth wicket partnership along with Sehwag which helped India reach the 200 run mark.

Chasing a target of 224, the Kiwis didn't start off well as they lost Martin Guptil in the very first over off the bowling of Praveen Kumar. Kumar was superb with his line and length and was troubling the Kiwis throughout the innings. He eventually finished up with 3 wickets and conceded 34 runs in his spell of 8 overs.

Nehra sharing the opening attack with him was superb as well, picking up two wickets and was very economical giving away nothing to the Black Caps as they were struggling big time to handle the seamers.

Munaf Patel making a return in the Indian side made a strong impression with his bowling as well with three wickets in the match. While Ishant Sharma and Jadeja shared a wicket a piece.

Kyle Mills coming in at No 9 was the only Kiwi batsman who provided some resistance. He scored a brilliant half century off just 35 balls and helped give Black Caps some respectability in their chase. However, the half century was no good, and the Black Caps were bowled out for 118 runs in just 30.1 overs.
