Cardiff: England has added paceman Ajmal Shahzad to its T20 squad to face against Pakistan as pace-bowling cover after Stuart Broad suffered a groin injury.
Broad failed to finish an England practice session on Friday but has not yet been ruled out of the opening T20 match, in Cardiff on Sunday.
An England spokesman explained the decision to call up Yorkshire seamer Shahzad as a purely precautionary measure ahead of the clash.
The Yorkshire seamer has already been named in England's squad for the five-match one-day series against Pakistan, which follows the two T20 games.
Broad will continue to receive treatment and is tipped to recover for the England's T20 match against Pakistan in Cardiff on Sunday.
