Johannesburg: Australian side Victorian Bushrangers marked a winning start as they defeated Mumbai Indians(MI), who were without their captain Sachin Tendulkar by seven wickets in a CLT20 warm up game at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Batting first the IPL 2010 runners-up team, MI had knotched up a competetive total of 170 for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs. Saurabh Tiwary and Shikar Dhawan opening the innings for the MI had started off well, putting together 42 runs for the first wicket. Then Tiwary and incoming batsman Ambati Rayudu put on a solid stand of 80 runs for the second wicket as Victorian bowlers had no answer to their batting display.
Tiwary eventually retired after making 56 runs in order to give batting practice to other players, while Rayudu scored a valiant 50.
However, the MI lower order were not able to consolidate and convert their strong start to a good finish as the MI could only finish off with 170 runs.
In reply to MI's total the Vitorians did not struggle much and overhauled the target with just 3 wickets down, to win by seven wickets.
Captain David Hussey lead from the front to top score with 42 runs for the Victorians while Aaron Finch hit a solid 38 runs.
Crucial partnerships were the key for the Bushrangers who did not face much of a challenge handling the Mumbai Indians bowling attack.
