Durban: South Australia Redbacks recorded a memorable win in their second outing in the Airtel Champions League T20, as they defeated Mumbai Indians by 5-wickets in their group B clash at Durban.
Chasing a stiff target of 181, the Redbacks got off to a magnificent start with openers Michael Klinger and Daniel Harris both scoring half century and some terrific hitting in the end by Christian, Borgas and Cooper saw the Redbacks home with 3 balls to spare.
Openers Klinger and Harris put on a first wicket stand of 112. Harris(56) reached the half-century mark with a six on the leg side off the bowling Pollard. He reached the mark in just 33 deliveries.
Mumbai Indians fielding was lapse once again as they dropped two, three good chances. Apart from the drop catches, their ground fielding was below par as well.
Spinner Murtaza finally got the first breakthrough for the Mumbai Indians. Harris was caught by JP Duminy at short mid-off.
Then Malinga followed it up with the second breakthrough in the very next over to dismiss Klinger. Klinger looking to go for a big hit, just managed to sky the ball high up to Bravo, the fielder at long off.
Then Murtaza got another important wicket of Graham Manou caught by Tiwary at the edge of boundary line.
Sachin's gamble to bowl Malinga on the 17th over paid off, as the bowler managed to get the wicket of Calum Ferguson in his final delivery of the over.
However, Dwyane Bravo conceded 16 runs in the 18th over as the Redbacks clawed back in the match.
Then Zaheer Khan with all the pressure in him, managed to get the wicket of Daniel Christian in his second delivery to bring the Mumbai Indians back in the game. But just when it looked like Mumbai Indians are back in as favorites to win the match, Zaheer was spanked for a boundary in the very next delivery and taken for six in the fifth ball as Redbacks came closer to chasing down the target.
Requiring 11 runs in the final over, Tom Cooper wrapped up the match in just three balls. Cooper finsihed up with 19 off just 5 balls. Cameron Borgas finished with 14 off just 5 balls at the other end.
Batting first, the Mumbai Indians had managed to put up a big total of 180 in their 20 overs. Rayudu had played a good innings after the Mumbai Indians lost Dhawan early. Then Tiwary in the middle played a good innings, scoring 44 runs off just 25 deliveries. Then Pollard and Bravo in the end had managed to find some monstrous shot to stretch the Mumbai Indians total.
The Mumbai Indians had scored a mammoth 121 runs in their last 10 overs.
Daniel Harris was awarded the man of the match for his commendable performance.
