Kieron Pollard played a blinder of an innings to help Mumbai Indians register a much needed victory over Guyana by 31 runs in their CLT20 clash at Durban.
Kieron Pollard who was promoted up the order was sensational and made full use of the opportunity spanking 72* runs off just 30 balls with 9 sixes and a four in his terrific innings.
Pollard's innings helped the team from Mumbai to reach a competitive score of 184 for 4 in their 20 overs. JP Duminy coming in at No 5 chipped in with 14 runs off just 6 balls.
Openers Sachin Tendulkar(48 off 39 balls) and Shikar Dhawan(39 off 37 balls) had got the Mumbai Indians off to a decent start but they were really struggling to connect and find boundaries. Tendulkar was the first man to be dismissed while trying to dance down the track and find a big one, but was deceived by the bowler to get him stumped.
But Pollard looked very determined and clubbed some monstrous hits to help Mumbai Indians finish off strongly. Mumbai Indians scored 85 runs in their last 5 overs.
Chasing a target of 185, Guyana didn't get off to a start that was required losing their first wicket in the second over of their innings.
Ramnaresh Sarwan and Narsingh Deonarine did offer some resistance with a third wicket partnership of 46 runs.
Ramnaresh Sarwan looked in good form and played some wonderful strokes. He was playing proper cricketing strokes and managing to hang on for the Guyana side.
However, the partnership was brought to an end with a spectacular running catch by Shikhar Dhawan. Even fielding coach Jonty Rhodes was applauding and seemed to have liked the catch pulled off by Dhawan.
Sarwan was finally dismissed in the 16th over off the bowling of Harbhajan. The extra bounce did the trick as Sarwan just managed to find Malinga while trying to go for a big shot. Sarwan scored 46 off 38 deliveries.
Chris Barnwell was the next man to be dismissed caught by Tendulkar, who seemed to be a relieved man after having taken a catch. The catch was similar to one to the one that he had dropped during their previous outing against South Australia Redbacks.
Then Zaheer got his first wicket to dismiss Foo. Zaheer had impressive figures in the match. He conceded just 17 runs and picked up Foo's wicket in his full spell of four overs.
The Guyana batting side eventually ended up with 153/6, losing the match by 31 runs.
