Centurion: Victorian Bushrangers recorded a thumping eight wicket-win over Wayamba Elevens with 6.4 overs to spare in the Airtel Champions League T20 at Centurion.
Batting first Wayamba got off to a worst possible start losing two players for duck in the opening two overs. Skipper Jehan Mubarak and Mahela Jayawardene however, steadied the Wayamba batting and put on a solid partnership of 72 for the third wicket before Mubarak was dismissed off the bowling of Andrew McDonald.
At that stage of play, Sri Lanka were well on track to make a competitive score until Mubarak's fall, the Wayamba batting started to collapse like a house of cards. Wickets were tumbling at regular interval while Jayawardene was running out of partner. The Wayamba side eventually finished at 106 losing their last eight wickets for just 24 runs.
Peter Siddle was the pick of the bowlers for the Bushrangers picking up four wickets for 29 runs in his four overs.
Chasing a modest target of 107, the Bushrangers reached overhauled the target with their key players at the crease. Aaron Finch(38 off 36) who has been exceptional throughout the league along with skipper David Hussey(47 off 28) saw the Victorians home with 6.4 overs to spare.
The Bushrangers did lose two quick wickets in the opening six overs of play but the duo made sure they lost no more wickets.
Victoria now has three wins from four games, but a lower net run-rate than Chennai Super Kings. For their qualification, Victoria will be hoping that group 'A' leader Eastern Cape Warriors can beat Chennai on Wednesday.
