Johannesburg: Chennai Super Kings Skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, lauded Suresh Raina for his blistering knock that helped his side book a place in the finals but admitted that the injury to Dale Steyn was a big blow for the RCB who missed his services dearly.
During early stages of the match, Dale Steyn had taken a brilliant catch to dismiss Michael Hussey but in the process injured himself badly and never returned in the field. Then came Suresh Raina replacing Hussey, blasting most of the RCB attack all over the park with a terrific 45 ball unbeaten 94. With no Steyn in the attack for the RCB, Kumble had no choice but to ask Cameron White to deliver two overs. Every bowler was taken for plenty of runs by Raina.
In the second innings, Bollinger and Morkel extracted good bounce and pace off the wicket and cause trouble to the RCB top order.
Dhoni admitted that Steyn with his pace and accuracy could have been a big difference in the overall outcome of the game.
"Steyn's absence was a major blow for RCB. He could have made the difference for them. We might not have got the surplus runs that we did had Steyn been around," Dhoni said.
"There is no doubt Steyn's injury was a loss for Bangalore,"
However, Dhoni was full of praises for Suresh Raina for making the most of the situation and helping his side post a mammoth target.
"Raina targeted the bowlers and got the results. It was an outstanding batting effort from him. Most importantly, all the shots came from the middle of his bat. The wicket wasn't easy as it looked when Raina was batting," Dhoni said.
