Mohali: Indian pacer Zaheer Khan and Australian skipper Ricky Ponting on Friday was caught in a verbal spat on Day one of the first Test match between India and Australia being played at the PCA stadium in Mohali.
The incident occurred when Ricky Ponting after a good half century was caught short of his crease by Suresh Raina. With the dismissal of Ponting, Zaheer Khan had something to say to the Aussie skipper, who walked back to towards the pacer and had few things to say for himself.
After the exchange of words between the two, Ponting was seen raising his bat at Zaheer, who then raised his hand indicating towards the pavilion. Umpire Billy Bowden had to then intervene into the matter to diffuse the situation.
However, it remains unclear as to what the verbal exchange was.
Ricky Ponting and Shane Watson had earlier helped Australia put on a solid platform after early dismissal of Simon Katich after opting to bat first. The duo put on a 141 run partnership for the second wicket before Ponting was dismissed.
