Sri Lankan spin-wizard Muttiah Muralitharan has been picked by the Sri Lankan selectors for the upcoming, limited-overs series in Australia.
Muralitharan made a big difference, playing for Chennai Super Kings in the recently concluded Champions League T20. He finished the campaign as the second highest wicket taker just one wicket short of his Chennai teammate Ravichandran Ashwin.
The 38-year-old offspinner had called it quits in the Test arena in July after becoming the first bowler to capture 800 wickets in the longest format of the game.
Although retired from Test cricket, he had said that he will be picking tours for ODI Sri Lankan side atleast till the big World Cup next year. He is also the leading wicket-taker in one-dayers, with 515 scalps to his name for Sri Lanka.
Arvinda De Silva, Chairman of selectors for Sri Lanka Cricket, said that Muralitharan had agreed to tour Australia and play the World Cup 2011 for the Sri Lankan side.
"Muralitharan is definitely part of our World Cup plans and we have included him to give him some international exposure ahead of the big event," De Silva said.
Off-spinner Suraj Randhiv will be partnering Muralitharan during the tour.
Sri Lanka is scheduled to begin their tour with a three one-day warm-up match against Queensland and New South Wales before facing Australia in a Twenty20 fixture and three ODIs.
