Dhaka, Oct 18: Bangladesh wrapped up the ODI cricket series by a 4-0 win against New Zealand. Bangladesh defeated the visitors by a nail-biting 4 run win in the last match at Mirpur.
Batting first, Bangladesh scored 174 runs in 44.2 overs after they faced early wicket falls. New Zealand bowlers showed an excellent bowling performance and made early breakthroughs through Kyle Mills and Andy McKay. During the middle orders Daniel Vettori struck on Tigers by claiming three wickets for just 32 runs.
Shakib and Mushfiqur Rahim came together in a 55-run stand that rescued the Bangladesh innings from an embarrassing collapse. But all-rounder Elliott dismissed both batsmen and intelligent bowling from other bowlers claimed Bangladesh's last 6 wickets for just 42 runs.
Black Caps batsmen tried to fight for the glory to win a match against the host but failed to defend massive attack by the Tigers bowlers. The hosts were all over them sending the first five batsmen back with a mere 20 runs on the board.
Later Daniel Vettori and Elliot tried to fight back, but Bangladeshi skipper Shakib Ul Hasan took the crucial wicket of Vettori. New Zealand crashed to 145 for 9 wickets. The great determination by Mills led Black Caps further forward and in last over they need 8 runs for the victory.
In the last over, Mills struck a boundary off the first ball and kept hopes for the visitors. But in the second ball pacer Hossain clean bowled Mills with a perfectly pitched yorker to whitewash the series.
Rubel Hossain, who picked up four wickets in the match, was selected for the Man-of-the-Match award.
