Vishakapatnam (India), Oct 19: Evidently frustrated over Australia's slip to an all-time low on ICC rankings following the team's recent 2-0 fall to India, Michael Hussey has insisted that his team deserved better than the fifth place.
"I don't think we're the fifth best team in the world, I don't think that's a true reflection of our team, we're definitely better than that," middle-order batsman told Sydney Morning Herald.
Dismissing the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Test rankings system, Hussey felt that the new Test championship, slated to be implemented in 2013, would be a better parameter to judge teams by.
"With the new Test championship coming in, that will probably give a better indication of where teams are at, and a better understanding of where teams are ranked," he said
SMH noted "funnily enough" that if the Test championship was introduced now Australia would not qualify as it will be contested by the top four sides.
However, the Australian team has time till 2013 to climb back up.
"We need to get up to make sure we're fourth to get into that. We've got a couple of years to continue the curve of getting better every time. I think our team is getting better all the time," Hussey added.
