Playing with renewed vigour after lunch, Harbhajan Singh and VVS Laxman brought up their 100-run partnership before pushing on. The singles and twos came with a comfortable rapidity and when there was an opportunity to hit a boundary, both batsmen met the challenge head on. The duo were doing a fine job at counter-attacking.
Bhajji and Laxman took India's second innings total to over 200 in the 82nd over with 4 byes, before Laxman dispatched Patel to fine leg for another boundary. Martin who didn't look as deadly as his earlier self, returned in the 83rd over to be driven through the covers by Laxman for another four. In the 87th over, Bhajji nearly gave a return catch to Martin. He closed the face of the bat to a length ball a little too early, but it was a tough chance that went down.
In the 90th over, Laxman was unlucky to be given out LBW to Vettori when he had clearly edged the ball onto his pads. He was out for 91. Then Zaheer Khan got out in the same way almost immediately, putting Vettori on a hat trick. The new batsman Ojha, played the hat trick ball calmly and proceeded to give Bhajji company as the latter's ton approached.
In the 92nd over, Bhajji brought up his maiden test century in style, lofting Vettori for a huge six over wide mid-off. He was not finished with business for in the 95th over, he carted Patel to over long off for another maximum. Ojha was as stable as ever at the other end, giving Bhajji good support. The two lasted out till Tea with the score on 255/8 and the lead at 283. The match is firmly poised for a draw.
