Sri Lankan fast-bowler and one-day staple player Lasith Malinga has been surprisingly left out of the side's squad for the first Test against the West Indies which starts in Galle on November 15.
Malinga had made a return to Tests after being absent for a couple of years, during the home series against India in July and August 2010. He played in the first Test, was a bench-warmer in the second and bowled only six overs in third, as India chased down Lanka's second innings total at the P Sara Oval. Since then, Malinga played the triangular series against India and New Zealand and then joined his side in Australia where he played an invaluable role in Sri Lanka's historic series victory Down Under.
The 16-member squad includes debuntante wicketkeeper Kaushal Silva, who will be the back-up for Prasanna Jayawardene and medium pacer Suranga Lakmal who is also an uncapped player.
