Former Zimbabwe captain and team coach of England Duncan Fletcher, will begin working with the New Zealand ODI team during their on-going series in India. Fletcher has been contracted as a full-time coaching consultant, employed by New Zealand Cricket (NZC)
Fletcher will arrive with the New Zealand team at Jaipur on Nov 30, one day before the second one-dayer against India. Considering that New Zealand is on currently on a five-match losing streak in the ODI format, having been thrashed by Bangladesh 4-0 last month and losing the first one-dayer against India on Sunday at Guwahati, the side can use all the help it can get.
"Duncan is a highly regarded coach and we are looking forward to having someone with his cricketing knowledge engage with the team," Roger Mortimer, an NZC manager, said. "Part of my role is to work with the coaching unit to provide the best environment for growth and development of the team. This includes tapping into the knowledge available from world class cricket experts."
Fletcher has worked with South Africa in a temporary capacity. During his tenure as coach of England, the team moved up from the bottom of the ICC Test rankings to No. 3. The high point came in 2005 when the side won the Ashes for the first time since 1986-87.
