Indian run-machine Sachin Tendulkar, will be breaking back into one-day fold as he joins he Indian limited overs squad for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa. The Little Master makes a comeback after nearly a year. His last one-day game was against the same opponents in Gwalior when he shattered the record for the highest ODI score with his scintillating 20o not out.
After scoring a half-century of centuries in Test cricket, Tendulkar is on the threshold of a similar record in one-day cricket. He is currently at 46 tons and may close in on the 50-hundred milestone in the next month itself. He will also be getting in much-needed match practice in the five-game series as it will be India's last one-day assignment before the World Cup 2011 commences.
The selectors have decided to go into the upcoming ODI engagement at full strength. Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla is the only new name in the 16-man list, having played a sole one-dayer back in 2008. Off-spinner Ravindra Jadeja has been excluded, while Yusuf Pathan, who bludgeoned his way back into the reckoning with a match-winning 123 against New Zealand at Bangalore recently, has been retained.
The side consists of six batsmen, wicketkeeper MS Dhoni, allrounder Yusuf and eight bowlers - five paceman and three spinners R Ashwin, also makes the cut after an impressive showing in ODIs following a successful IPL and Champions League. There was however, no place foir Ishant Sharma who last played against Sri Lanka in August.
