Even as South Africa are in a strong position in the ongoing Test series against India, the host side's captain is in a bit of distress. That's because he had lost a lucky charm - his green Test
The 29-year-old claims that the prized accessory was stolen from his possession while he was
travelling from his native place of Cape Town to Durban a couple of days ago. It has been a regular piece of his Test attire since he made his debut in 2002 against Australia.
In a plea to his followers on Twitter, he wrote: "Realise this is a long shot, but had my test cap that I've used since my first test for proteas stolen on travel up to durbs!"
Smith discovered the cap was missing when he arrived in Durban ahead of the second Test against India, which starts on Boxing Day.
He added in a second tweet: "Cap means a lot to me so if you know anything please give me a shout......thanks."
Smith, 29, has played 89 Tests in all. He has notched up an average of 50.52 with 22 centuries and 29 half-centuries and has pouched a total of 117 catches.
Will his lost lucky charm have an adverse affect on his performance as captain and batsman in the upcoming Test? India will certainly be hoping so!
