The ultimate tribute to India's cricketing heroes - Batting powerhouses Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and former Indian captain Kapil Dev were chosen through an online poll by fans from acvross the world, to mark the 40th anniversary of one-day cricket.
While Tendulkar and Sehwag were picked in the openers' category, Kapil Dev came out tops from among a list of all-rounders. Present Indian captain M S Dhoni who was in a shortlist of 48 players as a wicketkeper candidate, failed to make the cut, as did Sunil
Gavaskar as an opening batsman. Meanwhile, spinners Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh lost in the race to Sri Lankan off-break Muttiah Muralitharan.
The online poll was conducted by the ICC. A total of 600,000 fans from across 97 countries participated in the poll which was held between Dec 2, 2010 and Jan 2, 2011.
The ICC also asked fans to choose their favourite match from a list of ten memorable encounters. The clash between South Africa and Australia in 2006, when the Proteas chased down 434 came in at No.1.
