IPL Auction - Day 1, 3rd session

So this is it for the day. The action will resume on Jan 9. Still many are left to be auctioned. While some might be sulking at the prices they were bought for but then there will be many who have every reason to smile.

Gautam Gambhir must be wondering about what side of the bed he woke up today. The Pathans, they really have come a long way from the bylanes of Baroda and are the now the cynosure of all eyes. And for some youngsters like Pujara, Finch and Naman Ojha life will never be the same again.

Paul Collingwood is the last auction of the day. He has been bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1.15 crore.

Manoj Tiwary will join KKR for Rs 2.48 crore while Cheteswar Pujara has been courted by the RCB for Rs 3.2 crore.

Tamim Iqbal remains unsold while Callum Ferguson goes to Team Pune for Rs 1.38 crore.

Brad Hodge who was with the KKR moves to Team Kochi for Rs 1.95 crore.

Upcoming English batsman Eoin Morgan is yet another catch for the KKR who have doled out Rs 1.65 crore to avail his services.

Kapugedara finds no taker while Aussie batsman Finch has been taken by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 1.08 crore. Its not the Indians alone, the Aussies too are raking in the moolah.

Ramesh Powar joins Team Kochi for Rs 82.8 lakh.

Amit Mishra joins Deccan Chargers for Rs 1.38 crore. Nathan McCullum goes to Pune Warriors for Rs 46 lakh.

Pragyan Ojha stays with Deccan Chargers for Rs 2.30 crore.

Murali Karthik and Ajantha Mendis have remained unsold.

R Ashwin stays back with CSK for Rs 3.91 crore

Piyush Chawla has been bought back by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 4.14 crore.

Despite all his heroics, Graeme Swann remains unsold.

Muralitharan is bought by Team Kochi for Rs 5.06 crore.

Ryan Harris goes to Kings XI Punjab for Rs 1.49 crore, Dirk Nannes to RCB for Rs 2.99 crore and Doug Bollinger remains a Chennai Super King for Rs 3.22 crore.

5:00 pm

Morne Morkel has become a Delhi Daredevil for Rs 2.18 crore. And fellow South African team-mate Dale Steyn goes to the Deccan Chargers for an astronomical sum of Rs 5.32 crore. South African new ball partners are hot property.

Ashish Nehra will now have shift to loyalties to Pune after being bought for Rs 3.91 crore. But no such luck for Brett Lee. He will don KKR colours but for Rs 1.84 crore.

Indian players are making some serious money.

Ishant Sharma has gone to Deccan chargers for Rs 2.07 crore. His India team-mate Praveen Kumar goes to Kings XI Punjab for Rs 3.68 crore.

Dilhara Fernando remains unsold and keeping up with the series of surprises, James Anderson too remains unsold. What are the franchisees doing? Probably they all need to do a rethink.

This auction has been really surprising where some very big names like Brendon McCullum, Adam Gilchrist and Graeme Smith have not quite got the amount that everyone expected. But nevertheless the likes of Irfan Pathan, Robin Uthappa and Rohit Sharma will be laughing their way to the bank after franchisees doled out mind-boggling amounts to avail their services.

Gautam Gambhir, a very sincere and hardworking cricketer is now the highest paid cricketer in IPL and congrats because he always deserved that. Time has turned full-circle for Zaheer Khan who started his IPL career with RCB and is back again after two seasons.
