SA cruising at halfway stage

South Africa were progressing smoothly at the halfway stage in their innings reaching 126/2 in 25 overs with Hashim Amla and Morne van Wyk putting on a 100-plus partnership before the latter was out for 56.

Put into bat, South Africa's innings got off a dramatic start. In the second over, Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla each took a boundary off Munaf Patel before the fast bowler bowled four byes to round off the 13-run over. But just three balls later, Zaheer Khan had Smith caught at slip for 7 and the hosts were 16/1 in 2.3 overs.

In the 5th over, Amla went after Zaheer, getting two fours off him as South Africa moved to 32/1. In the 10th over, van Wyk came down heavily on Munaf, striking two fours off him and taking South Africa past 50. One spinner came on after the next, but the partnership between Amla and Morne van Wyk flourished as the duo took South Africa to 100/1 in the 19th over.

Van Wyk took a single off Chawla in the 20th over to notch up his half-century. But in the 23rd over, Yuvraj caught and bowled the batsman for 56 off 63. However, the next man at the crease, A B de Villiers, got off the mark by cutting Yuvie away for a boundary. After 25 overs, South Africa were 126/2.
