India has been served quite a scare ahead of the World Cup, with front-line pace bowler Praveen Kumar still suffering from an elbow injury. Praveen has applied for a UK visa and will probably be leaving tonight, Feb 1, to undergo surgery in the country.
Joint injuries are more serious than muscle or hamstring strains as they take a longer time to heal. So, there's a strong possibility that Praveeen would have to miss the World Cup which is scheduled to begin on Feb 19.
There is no word yet on whether Praveen will be ruled out of the global event and perhaps replaced by someone like S Sreesanth, who didn't make the initial 15-member squad. However, the latter appears quite unlikely as the final squad can not be changed unless special permission is granted by the ICC.
Praveen also missed India's recently-concluded ODI tour of South Africa due to the same niggling injury. He was omitted from the touring side along with Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Sachin Tendulkar who were themselves nursing injuries.
