SL make 277/9 in 3rd ODI vs WI

In the 3rd and final ODI against the touring West Indies, Sri Lanka made 277/9, thanks to a good hand of 75 from top-scorer Kumar Sangakkara and a late surge of 36 from Angelo Mathews, while Windies spinner Suleiman Benn claimed 4/38.

Batting first, Sri Lanka got off to a confident start with Tillakaratne Dishan smashing a six and a four off Ravi Rampaul in the 3rd over. Then he teamed up with Upal Tharanga to take two fours of Darren Sammy in the 8th over, as the Lankans climbed to 54/0 in 8 overs. But in the very next over, Dwayne Bravo had Dilshan caught behind for 30 off 28 balls and the hosts were 55/1.

Several quiet overs followed till Suleiman Benn bowled Tharanga for 39 off 52 balls as the Lankans slipped to 92/2 in 19 overs. But Jayawardene and Sangakarra took the hosts to over 100 in the 23rd over and pressed ahead. In the 26th over, the batting duo knocked 8 runs off Chris Gayle to move to 121/2. Sri Lanka sneaked past 150 in the 32nd over. In the 38th over with the score at a 183/3, Jayawardene struck a four off Rampaul to get out in the next ball, for 44 off 51 balls.

In the 40th over, Sangakkara belted Benn for two fours to take the hosts past 200, but was out in the very next over to Benn, for 75 off 105 balls. That triggered a latter-order collapse as Sri Lanka slumped to 245 for 8 in 47 overs. But Angelo Mathews stemmed the rot with a defiant 36 off 22 balls to lift Sri Lanka to 277/9 in their 50 overs.
