ICC officials arriving at Kolkata's Eden Gardens cricket stadium to check on the level of preparedness of the venue for the upcoming World Cup were greeted by vociferous protests.
Scores of protesters waving black flags and the tri-colour, held up protest banners and chanted anti-ICC slogans. Their message was clear - they wanted the inspectors to go back without checking the stadium.
The inspectors however, proceeded inside the venue and will take a call shortly on whether the stadium is fit enough to host the three remaining World Cup matches on its itinerary, after the Feb 27 encounter between India and England was shifted to Bangalore due to incomplete renovation.
As of now, Eden Gardens is scheduled to play venue to Ireland's matches against South Africa (Mar 15) and the Netherlands (Mar 18) as well as Kenya's encounter versus Zimbabwe on Mar 20.
