In news that comes as a jolt to Team India and fans alike, Indian seamer Praveen Kumar has been ruled out of the upcoming World Cup due to an elbow injury that expert says is unlikely to heal in time for the mega-event.
Praveen who was part of the original 15-man sqaud for the quadrennial event left for England last week to receieve treatment and possibly, surgery on his injured elbow.
Praveen is likely to be replaced by either Indian fast bowlers Vinay Kumar or S Sreesanth. Experts say that the latter has a slight edge over the former, primarily because of the bulk of international experience he has accumulated under his belt.
Sreesanth has taken 75 wickets from 51 ODI matches at an average of 32.04 and an economy rate of 6.01 while Vinay Kumar has an ODI wicket tally of just 2 from 2 matches at an average of 61 and an economy rate of 7.17.
