India were moving along smoothly at the half-way stage in their innings, reaching 160/2. Sehwag was not out on 83 and Virat Kohli had just joined him. Sachin Tendulkar was run out on 28 and Gambhir was bowled by Mahmadullah for 39.
India's innings began in blazing fashion with Virender Sehwag hitting the first and last ball of Shafiul Islam in the first over for fours through the covers and taking two doubles in between. Tendulkar also got off the mark with a boundary, coming in the second over before Sehwag joined in with another four. Then in the third over, two more boundaries came off Tendulkar's bat.
Four overs later, Rubel Hossain got Sehwag to bend his back several times, by bowling bouncers to unsettle him. But Tendulkar struck Abdur Razzak for a boundary to bring up India's 50 in the 9th over. Then Sehwag dominated Razzak, taking 2 fours off him in the 11th over. However, in the same over, there was a horrible mix-up between the batsmen and Tendulkar was run out for 28 off 29. India were 69/1 in 10.5 overs with Gautam Gambhir the new man at the crease.
In the 14th over, Sehwag spiked Razzak for a six to bring up his fifty and shortly afterward, India moved past 100/1. After 20 overs, India were 129/1. Three overs later, India had brought up its 150, but soon afterward Gambhir was bowled by Mahmadullah for 39 off 39 and India had slipped to 152/2 in 23.2 overs. India then climbed to 160/2 in 25 overs.
