New Delhi, March 7: Once in the dire position of 57/5, Kenya recovered to post a total of 198 all out against Canada in their World Cup tie at Delhi's Ferozshah Kotla stadium. Useful innings of 51 each from Tanmay Misra and Thomas Odoyo and a 57-run stand between them, helped revive the Kenya innings. Meanwhile, Canada's Henry Osinde emerged Kenya's biggest nemesis, notching up figures of 4/26, while Harvir Baidwan and Rizwan Cheema took 2 wickets each.
The Kenya innings got off to a horrendous start. In just the second ball, fast bowler Henry Osinde induced an outer edge from Maurice Ouma as the ball settled into the palms of Harvir Baidwan at second slip. Seren Waters' poor World Cup continued as in the 5th over, he was bowled by Osinde for 2 and Kenya were tottering on 7/2 in in 4.5 overs.
Then Collins Obuya launched a counter-offensive, striking Baidwan for two fours in the 6th over. But Osinde wasn't finished with Kenya yet. He had Collins' brother David caught behind for 2 and the batting side slipped deeper in trouble at 21/3.
Then Collins hammered off-spinner Parth Desai for a six and a four as Kenya climbed to 31/3 in 8 overs. But in the 12th over, his counter-attack was brought to an end when Baidwan bowled him for 31.
With the score at a near-hopeless 41/4, Tanmay Mishra joined forces with Steve Tikolo. The two took their side over 50 in the 14th over. But soon afterward, seamer Rizwan Cheema trapped Tikolo in front for 12. At 57/5, Mirshra and captain Jimmty Kamande struck up a partnership.
The two took Kenya to over 100 in the 28th over and soon after brought up the 50 partnership. But then Balaji Rao had Kamade caught behind for 22 as Kenya slumped to 109/6 in 29.2 overs.
What followed was Kenya's longest stand of the innings with Mishra and Thomas Odoyo taking the score past 150 in the 40th over before Mishra notched up his 50 one over later. But first ball next over, he fell to John Davison for 51 off 73 and Kenya were 166/7 in 42.1 overs.
Kenya lost Nehemiah Odhiambo to Osinde for 4 and Elijah Otieno to Rizwan Cheema for 8, before Harvir Baidwan bowled Odoyo for 51 with the last ball of the innings. Kenya were all out for 198 in 50 overs.
