New Delhi, March 9: After suffering a couple of set-backs the Netherlands had recovered at the half-way point in their innings, but their scoring rate was just above 3 an over, with the score at 84/2 . Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla picked up one wicket while slow-left-armer Yuvraj got the other with Ryan Doeschate and Tom Cooper at the crease.
The Netherlands kick-started their innings with some aggressive batting. Wesley Barresi struck the first four in the second over, off Ashish Nehra. Then Eric Szwarczynski went after Zaheer Khan, smacking him for one boundary in the 3rd over and two in the fifth as the Dutch raced to 26/0 in 5 overs.
The off-spin off Yusuf Pathan and Harbhajan Singh was introduced early, putting a check on the scoring rate. In 10 overs, the score read 38/0 with Bhajji and Yusuf still pummeling away at the batsmen. Then, two overs later, Piyush Chawla was brought into the attack.
A decision review for an lbw said not out and Szwarczynski survived in the 11th over. Then the batsman sent Chawla for a four to take the score past 50 in the 14th over.
But Chawla got his revenge just two overs later when he bowled Szwarczynski for 28 off 42. The Netherlands were 56/1 in 15.2 overs. Yuvraj compounded their woes when in the 19th over, he trapped Baressi in front for 26 off 58 as the score now read 64/2. Then Tom Cooper ans Ryan ten Doeschate pushed the ball around for one and twos to take the score to 84/2 in 25 overs.
