Mumbai, Mar 15: The legend of Sourav Ganguly is still untarnished and all that despite being snubbed by all ten IPL franchisees at the player auctions in Jan 2011. The iconic former Indian captain will once again wield the willow and step into the cricketing pitch in the Emirates Airline Twenty20 tournament in Dubai scheduled for April 2011.
Ganguly will don the MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club) colours and join a list of current and former international cricketers in the team.
MCC will take on English county champions Nottinghamshire, Durham, Sussex and Fly Emirates XI in the T20 tournament. Tournament Director, Mathew Jackson was quoted as saying, "It is a great honour to have Sourav Ganguly competing at the Emirates Airline Twenty20 and we are looking forward to welcoming this legend of the game to Dubai."
Jackson is also quoted by the PTI as saying, "The Dubai crowd are certainly in for a treat with this kind of talent on display at Sevens cricket ground. With the likes of Sourav in their line-up, the MCC side look to be strong contenders for the title. They certainly won't have it all their way, however, with some top-class players and former internationals in the other teams as well."
Ganguly who made his test debut at the Lords and scored a scintillating 131, is equally proud of his continued association with the MCC. He was quoted by the PTI as saying, "It is an honour and a pleasure to represent MCC. I am absolutely delighted to have been invited to play for the club in the Emirates Airline Twenty20 competition."
He was also quoted as saying, "I thoroughly enjoyed captaining the MCC side that took on the Pakistanis at Lord's last summer, and I am thrilled to get another opportunity to play for MCC.I am looking forward to continuing my relationship with MCC, and participating in this exciting new venture for the club."
Cheer up Dada fans, you don't need an IPL for the Dada to rule. He can do it anywhere in the world. Game on!
