Chennai, March 17: Even as England kept their World Cup alive with a dramatic win over the West Indies on Thursday night, the side's injury woes just keep piling on.
The latest casualty to rock the already beleaguered team is fast bowler Ajmal Shahzad who has suffered a recurring hamstring strain which he first picked up during England's tour of Down Under earlier this year.
The 25-year-old Yorkshireman had a scan conducted on his left leg on Wednesday night and the results mean that he is all set to return home. Rumours are also rife that Shahzad has been hit by tummy bug. But whether the cause is due to something he ate or the searing heat of Chennai, one doesn't know.
Shahzad becomes becomes the third England player to be ruled out of the tournament, following Kevin Pietersen (hernia) and Stuart Broad (sidestrain).
