Ahmedabad, March 24: India may have the home-advantage, but it's Australia that has won the all-important toss and quite predictably have opted to bat first at the Sardar Patel Stadium at Motera, Ahmedabad.
This quarterfinal match of the World Cup 2011, as it turns out, is a rematch of the 2003 World Cup final as it is taking place between India and World Champions Australia and is therefore being touted as a mini-final.
Contrary to pre-match worries, Virender Sehwag will indeed be playing in the match and will take up his opener's slot alongside Sachin Tendulkar while Yusuf Pathan, who has been averaging just 14 in the Cup so far, has been dropped and Raina retains his place.
Despite his impressive four wickets against Aussies in the World Cup warm-up game last month, Piyush Chawla doesn't find a place in the side with Bhajji and R Ashwin the two specialist spinners. Meanwhile, in the Australian side, David Hussey comes in place of leg-spinning all-rounder Steven Smith.
Australia and India appear evenly matched in terms of the tournament so far, having both garnered 9 points each with 4 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie/no result. As coincidences go, both sides lost to the table-toppers in their respective groups - Australia to Pakistan in Group A and India to South Africa in Group B.
The winner of this match will progress to the semi-final to play Pakistan.
