Mumbai, April 6: The gods bowed their heads in honour, a hundred crore screams of joy creaked the open skies when the living legend"s dream of winning the world cup was accomplished by the valiant knights, rightly guided and driven with a rush of soaring adrenaline. In the so called land of cricket, the god himself had to undergo a stinging wait of twenty two years, to bring home the cup.

Sachin: I am Legend

From a ball boy in 1987, when Sachin threw back the balls which crossed the boundary line at the splendid Wankhede stadium, none of the people in the stands or the players on the field had thought that, this fourteen something, tiny youngster would one day stand taller than any of the cricketer in the world and would be coroneted as the God of Cricket.

In a stunning career, spanning more than twenty years he crossed every milestone, scaled all the heights, which were hitherto deemed to be impossible for any living person. His name is etched on all the records known till date, and the legacy today is that, each ball he plays, each run he scores, and every moment he spends on the pitch is a record in itself.

The only thing that he craved for and was not achieved in his protracted career until the momentous day of 2nd April 2011, was the Cricket World Cup. All through his cricketing days, there was hardly any moment when he had spared the thought of winning world cup for India and reviving the magic of 1983, when Kapil"s devils brought home the cup. His dream was almost realized in 2003, when India entered the finals against Australia, just to face a crushing defeat. This loss did not break Sachin"s spirit nor did the shameful exit from the 2007 edition. It made him stronger and instigated his hunger to achieve the world cup to the highest level.

Against all odds, with an indomitable perseverance, at the very spot where he once rolled the balls back to the ground, where he set his first foot towards a glorious career, where he sweat his blood for the sake of the game that he loved, he lifted the cup that counted the most. The cup of joy that made him wait for twenty two years was finally in his arms. Beating Sri Lanka in the Finals, his team mates dedicated the cup to him and the people of India. And the celebrations that followed left a nation of 120 crore in a frenzy mood.
