The only thing that he craved for and was not achieved in his protracted career until the momentous day of 2nd April 2011, was the Cricket World Cup. All through his cricketing days, there was hardly any moment when he had spared the thought of winning world cup for India and reviving the magic of 1983, when Kapil"s devils brought home the cup. His dream was almost realized in 2003, when India entered the finals against Australia, just to face a crushing defeat. This loss did not break Sachin"s spirit nor did the shameful exit from the 2007 edition. It made him stronger and instigated his hunger to achieve the world cup to the highest level.
Against all odds, with an indomitable perseverance, at the very spot where he once rolled the balls back to the ground, where he set his first foot towards a glorious career, where he sweat his blood for the sake of the game that he loved, he lifted the cup that counted the most. The cup of joy that made him wait for twenty two years was finally in his arms. Beating Sri Lanka in the Finals, his team mates dedicated the cup to him and the people of India. And the celebrations that followed left a nation of 120 crore in a frenzy mood.
