Can KXIP reverse fortunes against Pune?

Pune have a handful of star attractions with Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uttappa standing out as a couple of the most costly players purchased in the IPL player auction earlier this year. They will no doubt be expected to play a pivotal role in the middle order, while it seems likely Graeme Smith and the Royal Challengers Bangalore renegade Manish Pandey will open for Pune.

Other overseas batsman who are projected to make an impact include Angelo Mathews, who is recovering from a side strain he picked up during the recently-concluded World Cup and Kiwis Jesse Ryder and Nathan McCullum, who will most probably lead the spin attack. The new ball is likely to be handed to Ashish Nehra who will get the support of the less experienced Jerome Taylor, Alfonso Thomas and Wayne Parnell.

KXIP may well miss the services of the "Punjab Ka Puthar" Yuvraj , whose career graphy has just hit an almighty crest (after he ensnared the Man of the Series at the World Cup 2011). But they have the successful Adam Gilchrist leading them, which might indeed prove the trump card for the side. Piyush Chawla, Ryan Harris, David Hussey, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Dinesh Karthik, Praveen Kumar and Ryan McLaren constitute the other premier players in the side. But these are yet ot prove themselves as match winners.

Not having a Stuart Broad to lead the pace attack, owing to the fact that he is convalescing from a muscle strain, means that the onus is on the relatively inexperienced Nathan Rimmington, Shahlabh Srivastava and Ryan Harris to turn to Praveen Kumar for inspiration and guidance. Meanwile, David Hussey, David Miller, Piyush Chawla and Bipul Sharma will be expected to fulfill KXIP's spin requirements.
