The Mumbai Indians got off to a shaky start in their innings with Morne Morkel bowling Davy Jacobs for 1 in the second over. Ambati Rayudu struck the first four off Ashok Dinda in the third over as MI moved onto 13/1 in 3 overs. In the next over, Sehwag made a valiant effort to catch Tendulkar off Morkel, at slip, but the batsman survived.
Then in the 6th over, Rayudu hooked Yadav for a four to square leg. But in the next, the batsman was run out for 14, thanks to a brilliant piece of fielding from Roelof Van der Merwe. Mumbai were 31/2 in 6.1 overs. Then Tendulkar ran a single off Van der Merwe to bring up his side's 50 in the 10th over. At the other end, Rohit Sharma decided to up the flagging run-rate by striking three
boundaries off Morkel in the 12th over. Tendulkar then carted Van der Merwe for a six, finishing the 15th over with his side's score at 85/2. The Little Master than smashed a straight four off Aaron Finch and survived an lbw appeal as the MI moved to 90/2 in 16 overs. Then after scurrying a few singles, Sachin struck the winning boundary to remain not out on 46.
