The Rajasthan Royals' innings was given a confident start by Rahul Dravid and Amit Paunikar with the former striking a four off Brett Lee in the first over and the latter slamming Laxmipathy Balaji for a boundary in the second, before both batsman took a four each off Jacques Kallis in the 3rd to scale to 22/0.
Then after a quiet fourth over from Balaji, off-break Shakib Al Hasan had Paunikar caught at backward of point for 9 and Rajasthan were 26/1 in 4.4 overs with Ashok Menaria the new man in. Dravid came in for some luck when he was dropped at short cover off Kallis in the 7th over.
Menaria struck Hasan for a four in the 8th over while Dravid did the same to medium-pacer Rajat Bhatia in the 9th to bring up the Royals 50 and then celebrated with another four off the same bowler. Then in the 10th over, Menaria clobbered Iqbal Abdulla for the first six of the innings as the Royals climbed to 67/1.
After Menaria got Kallis away for another four, Yusuf Pathan effected a double strike, bowling Dravid for 35 and getting Menaria caught and bowled for 27 off 21 balls as the Royals had slipped to 79/3 in 11.5 overs. Then in the 14th over, Shane Watson hit Hasan for a straight six. One over later, Watson ran a double to bring up the Royals 100.
Ross Taylor pulled Balaji over midwicket for two sixes in the 16th over. Then Watson struck Hasan for a six before he was out bowled.Taylor struck two more fours before bringing up the Royals' 150 in 19.2 overs. Then Lee bowled 5 wides before a flurry of singles led the batting side to a total of 159/4.
