Kolkata, April 17: For the second successive time in the Indian Premier League 2011, Kolkata Knight Riders dumped the Rajasthan Royals in an emphatic manner. Skipper Gautam Gambhir stayed unbeaten till the end to see his side win by eight wickets. As a result of the victory, Kolkata are now on the top of the points table.
Kolkata's chase started of in disastrous fashion when Shaun Tait clean-bowled Jacques Kallis in the very first over of their innings. Bisla, the other opener too fell to the guile of the wily Shane Warne and for a few overs it appeared as if the Royals were going to dish out a tough competition to the Knights. But that was not to be.
Manoj Tiwary who joined Gambhir at the fall of Bisla's wicket put stay with his skipper and ensured that their side won comfortably with 6.1 overs still left.
L Balaji, who has joined the Kolkata Knight Riders from Chennai Super Kings produced one of his most memorable bowling spells to capture three Rajasthan Royals wicket for only 15 runs in three overs. He was ably supported by the Bangladeshi skipper Shakib Al Hasan who had an equally wonderful time in the middle and returned with figures of 2 for 21 in his allotted four overs.
Earllier, Gambhir won the toss and elected to field first. The decision paid off immediately, as Balaji removed the dangerous Watson in the fourth over of the match and then after wickets kept tumbling regularly.
In the end, Rajasthan were bowled out for only 81, with A L Menaria being the top scorer.
