Mumbai, April 17: A free-flowing Pune Warriors batting line-up smashed their way to 187/5 in 20 overs against the Delhi Daredevils with opener Jesse Ryder top-scoring with a 27-ball 60. Then captain Yuvraj Singh (66* off 32 balls) launched out towards their imposing total, mutilating the figures of the Delhi bowlers, especially Dinda who went for 2/42 in 4 overs.
The Pune Warriors innings got off to a belligerent start, with Jesse Ryder hammering off-break Venugopal Rao for 2 sixes over long off in the first over. Then with Graeme Smith facing much of the bowling, 5 runs came off Ashok Dinda in the 2nd over and 2 runs off Irfan Pathan in the third as the Warriors moved onto 21/0.
In the 4th over, Smith smacked Dinda for another four before getting caught at square leg for 12 off 14 balls with the score at 28/1 in 4 overs. But Ryder wouldn't curtail his playing style. He clobbered Pathan for a four and a six in the 5th over as Pune scaled to 42/1 in 5 overs. Then Ryder went after Umesh Yadav, smashing four fours off him in the 6th over, taking the Warriors past 50 in just 5.2 overs and to 63/1 after 6.
Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem was knocked for a six at the end of the 8th over. Mithun Manhas hit a six in the 9th over only to be caught at mid-off next ball off James Hopes. Manhas was out for 20 off 18 as the score read 84/2 in 9 overs with Yuvraj Singh the new man in the middle.
Then Ryder got a reprieve when he was dropped off Nadeem. It was a costly error as Ryder immediately hit a six to bring up his 50 off just 24 balls and then struck a four off a misfield. But Nadeem had the last laugh when Ryder was caught in the deep off the last ball of the 10th over. Ryder was out for 60 off 27 balls, but the Warriors were still in a healthy position at 98/3.
Robin Uthapa and Yuvraj Singh ran a couple of singles to take the score to 100. Then in the 13th over, Yuvraj began to open up, smashing Nadeem for a six. But Uthappa fell in the same over for 4 off 10 balls while trying to go for a big heave down the ground. Pune were in a spot of bother at 117/4 in 13.3 overs. Then in the 16th over, Yuvraj ran a couple of doubles before smashing Irfan for an effortless six to take the score to 141/4.
Then Dinda got his second wicket when he had Mishra caught by captain Virender Sehwag at midwicket for 7 off 11 overs. Yuvraj then rounded off the 18th over by knocking a four off Dinda to take his side past 150.
Parnell got into the act, smashing Hopes for a straight four as 10 runs came off the penultimate over. Then Yuvraj got a top-edge four off Dinda before smashing him for a huge midwicket six to bring up his 50 and celebrating with another maximum and rounding off the innings with a third consecutive six. 26 runs came off the last over as the Warriors finished with 187/5 in 20 overs.
