Colombo, April 18: After weeks of indecision and uncertainty regarding who will lead the Sri Lankan national side after Kumar Sangakkara quit the post following the World Cup's finals' loss to India, Tillakaratne Dilshan has been handed the mantle of captain.
Dilshan's first assignment as skipper will be Sri Lanka's tour of England beginning May 14. The right-handed opener and off-break bowler, who is currently playing with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League, has got impressive statistics.
He has played 66 Tests, aggregating nearly 4,000 runs at an average of over 42 with 11 centuries and 16 half-centuries to his credit. He has also played 202 ODIs at an average of around 36.61 and a strike rate of 87 with 10 centuries and 22 fifties.
