Deccan's innings began in confident fashion with Sunny Sohal and Shikar Dhawan teaming up to knock three fours off Ashok Dinda in the first over. But in the second over Irfan Pathan struck back to bowl Dhawan for 8 as the score read 14/1 in 1.3 overs.
Then captain Kumar Sangakkara settled in with a four off Morne Morkel after which Sangakkara and Sohal each took a four off Pathan as the score moved to 30/1 in 4 overs. A four came of the 6th and 7th overs as the score read 50/1.
Then Sangakkara cut loose, hitting Nadeem for a square-leg six and two fours. It was time for Sohal to get into the act, carting James Hopes for two fours in the 9th over. Sangakkara and Sohal were making such sweet music, as the former smashed two fours off Nagar, both the result of misfields from Morkel at deep extra cover.
Then the batting duo took three fours off Pathan in the 11th over to bring up Deccan Chargers' 100. But Sangakkara was out later in the over when he was caught by Finch at mid off off Dinda for 49 off 35 as the score now read 106/2. In the 13th over, Sohal scurried a few singles with Cameron White to bring up 50.
14 runs came off the 14th over, with Sohal smashing a four and six off Morne Morkel as the score ticked to 126/2. But Nadeem had the last laugh when he dismissed Sohal for 62 off 41. DC were 129/3 in 15 overs. Then 13 runs came off the 17th over, including a six from Cameron White. In the penultimate over, James Hopes bowled Daniel Christian for 8 off 11. Then Dinda bowled the last over, conceding 10 runs as the Deccan Chargers ended their innings at 168/4.
