The Mumbai Indians innings got off to a shaky start as opener James Franklin was caught off Shrikanth Wagh at mid on for 6 off 8 balls as the score read 11/1 in 1.4 overs. In the 4th over, Sachin Tendulkar struck Wagh for a boundary and then in the 5th, Rayudu knocked a four off off-spinner Murali Karthik as the score moved onto 27/1 in 5 overs. The next three overs didn't produce any fours, but the Indians were still scoring at a brisk rate.
Then Rayudu struck a four off Parnell to bring up MI's 50 in 8 overs, before tucking into Rahul Sharma for another boundary. MI completed 10 overs at 63/1. In the 14th over, Tendulkar's unbeaten run came to an end when he was snapped up at the long off boundary for 35 off 39 balls as the Mumbai Indians slipped to 83/2 in 14 overs.
The next to go was Ambati Rayudu who struck a four off Alonso Thomas to then get caught at long on for 37 off 40 balls as the score read 89/3 in 15 overs. New batsman Rohit Sharma got off the mark with a four off Parnell. The other new man at the crease Andrew Symonds smacked the same bowler for two back-to-back fours to take Mumbai past 100 in the 18th over. With 5 runs required off the last over, Mumbai needed 1 run off 1 balls, when Sharma smashed a six to take MI home by 7 wickets.
