With Tim Paine for company, Jesse Ryder opened the batting for the Pune Warriors. After a quiet first over, Ryder knocked fours off Lasith Malinga and Ali Murtaza as the score moved to 16/0 in 3 overs. Then seamer Abu Nechim struck back, getting Ryder out for 12 off 15 and having Mithun Manhas caught behind for a duck as Pune slipped to 17/2 in 4 overs.
Then Pune were in disarray when Paine was bowled by Patel for 3 off 9 balls. That brought Yuvraj Singh to the crease. But he lasted all of one ball, when Munaf had him caught behind for a duck with Pune reeling at 17/4 in 4.4 overs. Then Uthappa edged Munaf for a third man boundary to round off the over. 10 runs came off the 6th over, including a straight four from Uthappa.
Then the batsman laid into Pollard, smashing him for a four and a free-hit six. But in the 9th over, Pune barely crossed 50/4 when Mohnish Mishra was caught at long on for 12 off 10.Then with Murali Karthik at the other end, Uthappa smashed a four off Malinga as the score ticked to 60/5.
The batsman took a four off James Farnklin in the 12th over and one more of Malinga in the 13th, before Kathik chipped Malinga straight into the palms of Andrew Symonds. Pune wree in deeper trouble at 87/6 in 13 overs. The next over bore 10 runs including a four from Uthappa. But in the 15th over, the batsman was caught brilliantly by Kieron Pollard for 45 off 37 balls off Murtaza.
New batsman Rahul Sharma took a single to round off the over and take the score to 100/7. The same batsman then hit a six off Franklin in the 16th, before Parnell struck the bowler for a four. But the latter batsman was immediately bowled by Franklin for 9 off 8 balls as the score read 111/8 in 16 overs. Then Wagh was dismissed by Malinga for 2 and in the following over Munaf got rid off Sharma for 13 as the final score read a dismal 118 all out in 17.2 overs.
